It is an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study. A sample of 57 medical students from a private university where subjected to the scale to measure Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7, obtaining the following results: It was identified that 75.4% of the students manifested some degree of anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic. 52.63% mild, 7% moderate and 15.8% severe. On the other hand, 91.2% of the participants expressed pathological concern about the current situation in the world and 82.5% recognized that they were not able to relax in such a situation. These results show a higher frequency in female students, as well as, characteristic among university students under 18 years of age. It is considered that the university setting deserves special attention as it is an environment which contributes to the manifestation of psychiatric disorders such as anxiety. Medical students are a most vulnerable part of the population for the development of different mental disorders due to the high demands of their career, such negative impact on mental health of young people is increased due to the current pandemic. Intervention strategies should be generated in universities to allow young medical students to develop assertive coping techniques applicable to situations that constitute a threat to the preservation of their own mental health.
