A study of 105 index patients and 392 household contacts in China found the secondary attack rate of COVID-19 among households was 16.3%, with the age and relationship of the contacts to the case as potential risk factors. Secondary attack rates were higher among spouses (27.8%) compared to other adult members in the household (17.3%). To reduce transmission, effective quarantine measures need to be taken within households.
