A prospective cohort study was used to analyze the risk factors associated with COVID-19 among infected individuals in the UK. The most common comorbidities among those admitted to the hospital were chronic cardiac disease, followed by uncomplicated diabetes, non-asthmatic chronic pulmonary disease, chronic kidney disease, and obesity, which were associated with higher mortality and increased hospital stay. Additional independent risk factors were male sex and increasing age. At the time of analysis, 41% of all patients were discharged alive, 34% were under hospital care, and 26% died. Among those receiving mechanical ventilation, 17% of patients were discharged alive, 46% remained under hospital care, and 37% died.
