Through viral inoculation and exposure of naïve animals to infected animals, Shi et al. found that SARS-CoV-2 replicates poorly in dogs, pigs, chickens, and ducks, but that cats and ferrets are susceptible to infection. The authors recommend that surveillance for SARS-CoV-2 in cats with close contact with humans should be considered as an adjunct to elimination of COVID-19 in humans in the future.
